3D Printed Baby Helmet
Effective and comfortable cranial remolding therapy for your baby.
Introduction to Head Deformities
Plagiocephaly and brachycephaly, commonly called flat head syndrome, are the two main types of positioning-induced head deformities in infants. The differentiation between the two depends on the position of the flat spot. The deformities commonly result from the infant continuously resting its head in the same position. Oftentimes, cranial remolding therapy is recommended when alternative therapies have failed.
Introduction to Helmet Therapy
Cranial remolding therapy - also known as helmet therapy - is prescribed to treat positioning-induced head deformities in infants. The orthosis protects the flat area of the child's head against pressure while gently redirecting the naturally occurring head growth into the flat part.
Generally, it's recommended to start therapy at 5 - 8 months old, as the child's head is still growing rapidly. Usually, therapy takes 3 to 6 months depending on the child's head growth. Therapy becomes less effective at around 12 months of age, as the head growth slows down and thus, the orthosis has less head growth to redirect into the flat area.
Helmet Therapy Process
Ask your favorite orthotics facility, whether they provide helmet therapy with the orthosis from KrugenerOrthoTech. The facility can easily add our baby helmet to their product portfolio.
Therapy begins by 3D scanning the child's head. Afterwards, the orthosis is manufactured & a fitting appointment can be scheduled once it has arrived. After an initial habituation process the orthosis should be worn 23 hours per day to deliver optimal efficiancy.
